I was so thrilled yesterday to go to the once glorious fields of Tempelhof airport… fields where many crucial war moves were made, where evil personalities roamed and good ones overruled… Those fields are now covered with grass and the light memory of times not so long gone linger in a remote part of our conscience…
It felt awkward and powerful to be there. The amazing part was that the Berlin based Grimmuseum decided to launch their first big publication right on the Tempelhof field! My work and performance “Wake for James Lee Byars” is included in the “WE ARE NOT A MUSEUM” publication! Solvej Helweg Ovesen put my work in a sharp and focussed context and perspective by delivering a great text! Enrico Centonze, Grimmuseum’s director, was a perfect gentleman, as always and a brilliant host together with talented artist and creative curator Andrés Galeano. I really felt welcome and happy. Thank you guys for a great day!
The book is professionally written and done! Really very well worth to have in every art lover’s library! Almost all photos in the book were shot by Laura Gianetti. “WE ARE NOT A MUSEUM” / Grimmuseum Berlin, is published by Bom Dia Boa Tarde Boa Noite. Order it now! ISBN 978-3-943514-12-4

IVAN CIVIC – “SUPERFICIAL surface” – facebook event for performance lecture at the Czech Institute in Berlin!
Civic’s new work: “SUPERFICIAL surface”, is a hybrid between an art performance and a classic academic lecture. This is a new field where the artist is free to research and try out new forms of artistic expression through languages that usually would not come into play when topics such as transgender and politics are involved.
The audience will first be confronted with a pure performance which will gradually mutate into a lecture, maintaining the concentration and focus of the first while adding a variety of new ways to interact and come closer to the audience on both an intellectual and emotional level.
The topic of Civic’s performance lecture is “SUPERFICIAL surface”, as an explanatory statement of transgender today.
Here is an exclusive text extract from Ivan Civic’s upcoming work: Read More…

Dear family and friends,
I am running around doing so many things at the moment. I was just very recently asked by Monika Stepanova, director of the Czech Institute in Berlin, to contribute to their upcoming exhibition: “Transgender me“, by giving one of my performance lectures for the opening of the show. After the first few problems were solved and my schedule was revised so I could have time to prepare and perform, I accepted the challenge and now am in the midst of a tour de force to get ready for this extremely difficult short notice endeavour!
My performance lecture will be entitled: “SUPERFICIAL surface” and will take place on opening night, June 13th, beginning at 20:30, at the Czech Institute in Berlin. Wilhelmstrasse 44 – and for those of you who have never been in the Czech Institute/Embassy building, you will be surprised! It is one of the best examples of brutalism of the seventies! It is a sculpture of inspiration!
More information coming up soon!
See you all there!
My contribution to the Grassi Museum for applied arts is still on show till November 2013. The Jeremy Scott for adidas poodle sneakers I have borrowed the museum, from my private collection, are now featured in the official book/catalogue of the show. Edited by Kerber Verlag. The exhibition is well worth a trip to Leipzig and my poodles are well taken care for by all the lovely co-workers from Grassi! I shot the pictures of the JS Poodle which you can see in the catalogue on page 157!

SUNGLASSESPRESERVATION just posted a series of images and texts on CHANEL’s take on Edward Melcarth’s amazing bat shades (worn by Vampira) and his beautiful butterfly shades worn by Peggy Guggenheim! Very interesting to see how designs may be developed from complex wood, hand made, one of a kind objects, covered with gold leaf into more sophisticated, elegant high end fashion CHANEL objects of desire! WOW!
I decided to go punk for aesthetical reasons… and perhaps for gender reasons as well… but about gender I will report soon… very soon! Sooner then later – stay tuned! So I made the Jeremy Punk installation for No74, in Berlin.
Jeremy Scott… A little total look jumps out of his adidas spring/summer 2013 collection… Between all the teddy bears, poodles, pastels and neons, there is a shroud of punk and politics… or maybe just aesthetic punk without politics… your pic on how to interpret it…
Most ignorant people would complain about his punk design… but let them yell at their own mirroirs… let them cry and drink up their own bitter tears while we rejoice in the fact that we are free! Enjoy your freedom and never take it for granted! It is not a given! It is a privilege to be free! And so I say, we still need a revolution! Freedom should not be a privilege! It should be a free must!
Peace and love!
P.S. The little installation is to be seen at No74, in Berlin!

Labor day… the traditional little 24 Hours in which the hard worker gets to believe for a nanosecond that anybody/the system gives a shit about him/her. I never really understood labor day. What are we the people that work our asses off supposed to do on this day? Celebrate our rights? Celebrate our jobs? Celebrate that we got one day off? Use this day to start a Read More…
